METHOD
Strategy is ONE of the most overly debated topics in the online space. Why? It sells. Simple.
Is it wrong? Absolutely not. It’s the name of the game and the sooner you realize it, the sooner you can make bank in your business. How?
I’ll tell you the lessons I learned in business when it came to my Method in 2021.
Lesson 1: Endings are also a beginning.
When I closed down my membership in 2021 I was devastated. I’d prided myself in creating literally the ONLY high-level membership in the industry that focused heavily on customized coaching. You read that correctly, a membership with a price point no greater than $250 at its highest and $97 at its lowest was doing hands-on, customized support.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I crushed it. The Shine on Social Club will go down in history as one of the BEST offers in this industry (in my non-humble opinion) BUT it didn’t align with the vision moving forward. With my move across state lines and my vision for my next venture becoming more solidified I had to say goodbye to the thing that I became KNOWN for and that was tough.
But I recognize that endings are also a beginning. It’s okay to say goodbye to something that doesn’t align with you moving forward. In business, you must be able to make decisions and make them quickly –notice I didn’t say ACT on them quickly.
Lesson 2: Sell strategy.
Here’s the double-edged sword. The “do it your way” versus “I can show you my way” debacle.
The “stop telling people to do x method” versus “you should do it my way method.”
You know my “both”/”and” philosophy? Well, it applies here too.
Your strategy, for the love of all, is the thing that’s going to make you money and lots of it. If you’ve created a method, refined the method, tested the method, have supported others in seeing the method work… why wouldn’t you sell it? It’s your intellectual property in practice.
For example, I believe Mindset, Method, and Mastery is the key to online business success. Do I think it’s the ONLY method? Absolutely not. It’s A method. And the person who wants to work with me and can see themselves inside of the method is all that matters.
Lesson 3: Plan for low-income months.
This isn’t much of a lesson for me as it is a reminder to you. I knew with the closing of my membership my income would take a hit. And no not because the membership was bringing in serious cash.
Before the closing of Shine on Social Club all of my private coaching clients were funneled through that offer.
They’d come in at an introductory price point, they’d see what an amazing coach I am, they’d get to a level where the group structure was holding them back and they were ready to spread their wings and soar into my mastermind, private coaching, or a one-off 2-hour intensive.
I knew closing down my membership would require me to figure out, yet again, how to funnel people into my private practice.
Needless to say, it’s been a journey but I planned for it!
Lesson 4: Be willing to go back to fundamentals.
This goes in conjunction with the previous lesson. In closing down my introductory offer (no you don’t NEED one it just made sense for ME to have one at the time), I knew I needed to make a change in the way people were introduced into my private practice.
I knew I needed to go back to basics and open up the opportunity to talk to people on the phone – on a sales call if you will – but there was a bit of resistance around that. And no the resistance wasn’t a result of how this industry demonizes sales calls after you’ve hit a “cErTaIn LeVeL” – it was the result of my dopamine – or lack thereof.
If you know me, you KNOW my energy is literally my everything. It speaks words about me, I could never and would never attempt to try.
And giving that away on a sales call didn’t FEEL right. But here’s another lesson, sometimes you have to put your feelings to the side and boss up.
So, here’s to going back to what I find is a fundamental way to generate leads and make sales in business. Calls. You can book one, I DARE you too actually.
Beyond putting my feelings aside, I let this process roll out gradually. I did a few calls behind the scenes before I started to publicly offer them, I also have strict boundaries on when the calls happen, how long they are and my rates aren’t a secret, so, my dopamine stays in check and you can talk to me about us working together
Seriously, I dare you to book a call.
Lesson 5: Work it until it works.
You’re going to either love me or hate me on this one but the truth is, sometimes your results take about 60 to 90 days from the implementation of your strategy to show up. Now, remember you DON’T HAVE TO BORROW MY BELIEF FOR SIZE but if you’ll level with me here, you switching up your strategy every 3 days isn’t serving you, is it?
Look… you swapping out strategies in your business every 3-5 business days is COSTING YOU. It’s costing you time, mental capacity, energy, and oh… money. Yep. You switching lanes faster than your audience can follow behind you is giving them whiplash, keeping them confused and not BUYING.
Here’s a belief you’re encouraged to borrow for size, sell one thing, and master selling that one thing until it’s at capacity. Then and only then move on to the next thing.
Lesson 6: Bonus – Lowering your rates won’t encourage the right people to invest in you.
Not a lesson I learned last year but a reminder for you because it truly baffles me when business owners lower their rate and wonders why people don’t invest (given you’re actually having a CONVERSATION with people – lots of yall are making decisions from conversations that have NEVER happened, i.e. assuming your buyer can’t buy – that doesn’t sound very empowering to me).
Your people aren’t looking for a lowered rate or discount. They’re looking for you to tell them WHY investing in your offer matters, WHERE they can go to get more information, and WHAT they can expect their result to be. If you can master the hell out of that, you’re golden and you can sell anything!
Don’t be so quick to lower your rates or give a discount; Focus on helping the buyer feel empowered to make a decision! Sometimes you need to say things with grace, other times you need to give it to them straight. Find your ebb and flow and stick with it.
So here’s the tip:
Every strategy works just as long as you work it. My advice? Work with a coach in a private capacity. It’s one of the BEST ways to help you hone in on a strategy that suits YOU best. Your job, lean into your intuition, my job? Help you create a strategy around that.
